This project is a 73,6MW biomass power plant under development on the “Sud-Bandama” region in Cote d’Ivoire. The biomass sourcing is mainly based on a large and completely unused resource: Cocoa Pods wastes. Cocoa is the main export of Cote d’Ivoire and the core of its economy with almost 2 million tons annual production. Each kg of cocoa beans generates around 13 kg of waste with very good fuel properties. The region where the project is located is among the main cocoa regions in Cote d’Ivoire with over 1,800,000 tons of unused cocoa waste, the shells. By collecting 400,000 tons/year, the power plant will provide around 500 GWh of a reliable, clean energy to the nearby grid all year.
